Coaching checklist

REQUIRED STEPS for all coaches (both Head Coach and Assistant Coach):

  • Register as a coach (located on Registration tab).

  • Complete the OYSA Affinity background check. This is MANDATORY for the protection of players, coaches and the league. This is an external site and TSC cannot help you with usernames or logins.

  • Complete concussion education training (Concussion Education tab). This is MANDATORY by Oregon Law and must be completed YEARLY (certification is only good for 12 months). The Certificate MUST be sent to the league (see below) before you start practicing.

    • You may do either the CDC "Heads up" course or the NFHS "Concussion in Sports" course. Both are free. Note that NFHS will ask you register and will save your certificate. The CDC course DOES NOT SAVE ANYTHING so you must download and/or print your certificate immediately otherwise it will be lost.

    • Some browsers do not work well with these courses (particularly Internet Explorer). If having trouble, try Firefox or Chrome.
    • Upon completion, please submit the PDF of your concussion certificate to the league HERE.

  • Attend the pre-season Coach Meeting where you will be given your roster and equipment as well as sign up for practice times/locations. Please let us know if you cannot attend.

Highly recommended steps for all coaches:

  • Hold a team meeting with parents the first week of practice. It cannot be stressed enough how important this step is. There you can introduce yourself, go over expectations and ground rules, discuss the Oregon concussion law so everyone understands. Perhaps most importantly - identify a team parent early (see Team Parent tab for duties).

  • Prior to your first game, familiarize yourself with age specific rules and have lineup and substitution plan set (this will be covered at the coaches meeting AND updated on this website by 9/1).

  • Have fun and thank you for volunteering to coach!

  • If you are having difficulty registering with TSC or do not understand the concussion certification process please contact us.

Coaches Meeting - season kick off

2017 Coaches Meetings

The annual coaches meetings to kick off the season will be:

Monday, July 31st, 2017 at 6PM for KG, 1st and 2nd grade coaches (U6 to U8)

Tuesday, August 1st, 2017 at 6PM for 3rd grade through 8th grade coaches (U9 to U14)

Both will be at Ibach Park, look for us under one of the shelters. Coaches who are assigned a team will be notified prior to the meeting date.

It is essential that coaches attend their meeting. If you cannot attend it is important that you send a team representative - please plan ahead!

High school rec program coaches will have their own separate meeting.

This meeting is when you sign up for practices, get your rosters and TSC provided equipment as well as go over the expectations and ground rules for recreational soccer.

If you already have gear from last season but need some more cones, practice vests or ball size has changed? Come to the meeting and pick them up. There will also be general info about the league, rules, expectations and on the Oregon concussion law / compliance for coaches (see Concussion Education tab to the left).

If you have any questions feel free to contact the Coaching Coordinator.
